Hi, I want to add a Fishman Powerchip to a Stratocaster. I don't have a drill press. My idea was to use a very thin drill to drill completely through the body to locate the top and bottom hole. Then from the bottom use a Forstner bit to create the cavity leaving enough wood for the shaft top and bottom nuts to sandwich. Then from the top drill the 3/8 inch hole into the cavity. Am I on the right track? and would you attempt this without a drill press? I have searched the Internet quite a bit and "adding pot to solid body guitar" yields nothing useful. I would recommend not doing this. Find a custom pot setup without drilling out the guitar that works. |

I agree with David and I make my living drilling out guitars but where we do no harm. Do it in the pick guard region so it's reversible with a new guard when the power chip goes tits up long before the instrument does. Welcome to the form Michael |

I suppose the OP wants to emulate Pete Townshend's setup. In which case he'd have to make a router template to guide the cavity on the back. But I agree, I'd rather choose to keep the body unharmed and route under the pickguard when I have no other choice. Well, that's what I usually do anyway. Pierre Guitares Torvisse |

I would change to a single master tone and put the pit for the power chip in the 3d hole |
